Since 2009, the Perry Athletic Hall of Fame has been building on Perry’s sense of community and pulling generations of Perry supporters together.  This will happen once again on the weekend of September 14 & 15, 2018.  The class of 2018 will be announced at the home football game on Friday, September 14.  The annual golf outing and ceremony will take place on Saturday, September 15 at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course and the McKinley Eagles.  The Perry Athletic Hall of Fame proudly announces the following inductees into the Halls of Perry:

Rod Strata was the Panthers View Athlete of the Year for the 1975-76 season.  He earned All-League honors in football and earned All-Big Ten Conference honors at Michigan State during the 1980 season.  Rod still owns the school record for shot put with a throw of 57’ 6’’.

Doug Burwell starred in the trenches for Perry and earned All-league, All-County, and Special Mention All-Ohio honors his senior year.

Runner JD Horton earned All-Ohio honors in both Cross Country and Track.  In 2007, JD became a State Champion in Indoor Track.  He continued his running career at the University of Kentucky.

Chuck Barton led the 1969 Panthers to their first undefeated season on the gridiron.  He earned All-League and All-County honors and was lauded by Coach Winkhart for his leadership abilities.

Golfer Kari Liggett was a two-time State placer (20th & 21st place) and continued her career at Bowling Green State University where she was a two-time Co-Captain for the Falcons.

Hoopster Kenny Frease averaged a double-double during his senior year at Perry and earned All-State honors for the 2007-2008 season.  His teams at Xavier won 100 games in four years and went to the Sweet 16 three times in his time with the Musketeers.

Nate Vickers was a two-time State placer on the mats for the Panthers (finishing 3rd & 6th).  He continued his wrestling career at the University of Pennsylvania.

Joe Whitmer was a two-sport star at Perry (baseball & basketball).  Joe earned 2nd team All-Ohio as a junior and 1st team All-Ohio his senior year in baseball.  He went on to earn All-Conference honors at Erskine College and played professionally for the Canton Crocodiles and Selma Cloverleafs.
