PHS Physics to Study Energy Vampires
FirstEnergy Corporation has chosen Perry High School’s Physics classes to receive a grant. The Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education grant was awarded to Nate Van Wey’s classes to study electric energy waste. The grant titled “STAKE the Vampire” (Students Teaching About Kilowatts of Energy) will use technology to determine the amount of electrical energy and money wasted in homes due to appliances, computers, TVs, chargers, etc that are using electricity when they are not actually being used. The classes will be using watt meters to study these electricity draining devices and determine the cost to the consumer from these “electrical vampires”. Results will be shared with the school through a bulletin board display and with the school and community through a web site.
