Genoa Cafeteria Holds Taste-testing Days

During the months of February & March Genoa cafeteria staff discussed the benefits of dairy products and taught students some of the many different foods that come from dairy. On February 19, they held their first taste-testing day. Many of the children tasted cottage cheese for the first time. Several more taste-testing days are planned including different types of cheeses and yogurt.
Eating three daily servings of milk, cheese, or yogurt is an easy way to get enough nutrients to help build stronger bones and healthy bodies including healthy weight.

GOAL:
*Introduce children to different types of dairy products (fruits and vegetables if you want to include last year) that they might not ordinarily eat or have had the opportunity to try.
*To encourage them to eat the recommended daily servings.
*Get them interested/excited about eating healthy.
*Encourage healthy eating at school and home.
*Have healthy snacks after school (ex; cheese and crackers, yogurt & fruit, veggies and dip.)
*Fruits and vegetables that we tried last year: grapefruit, kiwi, avocados, papayas, mangoes, asparagus, parsnip, turnips, raw veggies: (broccoli, cauliflower, green and red peppers,) sweet potatoes.
