PHS Symphonic and Lyrics Choirs

On Saturday, March 13, these groups traveled to Warren to participate in the Ohio Music Education Association District Contest.  Each ensemble prepared three pieces to perform for three different judges and an audience and then moved to another room for sight reading.  In sight reading, students are given an original composition to look over for 4 minutes and then they must sing the song to the best of their abilities.  After singing it through once, the students work with their director for another minute and then have to sing the song again, this time a cappella.  The entire process requires months of preparation, much concentration and focus, teamwork and determination.  Both groups received a rating of “I” or “Superior” for their efforts and now qualify for State Contest, to be held at Jackson High School on April 30 and May 1.  Symphonic Choir performed in Class A and last qualified for State Contest in 2008.  Lyrics performed in Class C and haven’t been to State Contest in at least ten years and probably longer!
