Perry Junior High Wrestling Team

The Perry Jr. High Wrestling Team has been working extremely hard this season and has enjoyed some success. But they are not content with what they have accomplished thus far.

The team is made up of 7th and 8th graders from Pfeiffer and Edison. This season they have first place finishes at the Wadsworth, Meadowbrook, Cambridge and Waynedale tournaments. They also finished first at the Federal League Dual Tournament with a record of 5-0.

The wrestlers usually practices in the Pfeiffer cafeteria and sometimes travels to the Perry High Wrestling Room when it is available. The wrestlers are a very focused group and give great effort in practice. Drilling to improve their technique and wrestling live in practice has improved their skill level as well as their conditioning. Anyone attending their matches can tell that in the third period they always have that “little extra” that can make a difference in a tight match against a good opponent. They rely on the Perry High concept that “when you work hard, good things happen”.

The team is coached by Head Coach Flint McCollins. He is assisted by Shaun Smith, Jason Wise, Scott Durieux, Dick Maier and Mark McCauley. They work tirelessly to develop each wrestler, and push them to reach their individual and team goals.

The team is training for the Federal League Tournament on January 29th. They have been invited to the Ohio Junior High State Dual Team Championships, and will also compete individually at the District and State Championships.
