Healthy School Lunches and Breakfasts
Perry Cafeterias celebrate Healthy School Lunches and Breakfasts! Do you know what is being served in Perry Local School’s Cafeteria? The answer may surprise you. Today’s School Lunches are healthier than ever. We offer students fruits and vegetables every day including the introduction of more fresh, locally grown produce, an increase in offerings of whole grains, and the limit of calories, fat, and sodium to age-appropriate levels. October 13-17 is National School Lunch Week. The theme “GET IN THE GAME WITH SCHOOL LUNCH” celebrates the importance of balancing good nutrition and healthy eating with physical activity and exercise. Kids need 60 minutes of play with moderate to vigorous activity every day so let’s all work together to get started on a healthier lifestyle. Engaging in physical activity as a family can be a fun way to get everyone moving – Take a walk around the block or try a new sport or activity. We will do our part to encourage healthy eating by celebrating the week with special promotions and contests. All of Perry Cafeterias also serve healthy breakfasts every morning including Fresh Fruit, Juice, Whole Grains and Milk. Research has shown that starting the day with a nutritious breakfast helps students stay alert and perform better in school. Breakfast is served daily in the school cafeterias 15 minutes prior to the beginning of school. The National School Lunch Program provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost and free meals to students. Lunch Price – $2.25/Reduced $.40 Breakfast Price – $1.25/Reduced $.30 Those that qualify for free/reduced lunch also qualify for free/reduced breakfast. Together we can “Get in the Game” and have healthy, active students!
