Congratulations to Perry High School’s Speech and Debate team on winning the state title! This past weekend, PHS secured the state title at the annual Ohio Speech & Debate Association (OSDA) state tournament out of 89 teams, which took place on March 2-3 at Sylvania Northview and Southview High Schools.
It has been 10 years since Perry’s team has secured this extraordinary accomplishment; this is their fifth state title.
At the tournament, PHS had numerous noteworthy performances, including three individual champions by Kasey Pukys in International Extemporaneous Speaking, and the team of Justin Blythe and Grant Knepper in Policy Debate.
Congratulations to all of the other debate finalists, including:
- Taylor Anthony– Fifth Place in Original Oratory
- Maggie Craig – Sixth Place in Original Oratory
- Nick Loew/Isaac Abrego – Quarterfinalists in Policy Debate
- Leah Moore – Third Place in United States Extemporaneous Speaking
- Jason Cindia/Kevin Echelberry – Quarterfinalists in Public Forum Debate
Also at the tournament, Perry team members had great success in the speech events, with Gavin Friedrichsen, Hannah Marino, James Condo, Rocco Grossi, Sierra Duncan and Alivia Kieffer placing as semi-finalists and Breanna Petitti, Ari Curtis, Cat Hughes, Mia Demetro, Zach Ferko, Cole Fremon, Jacob Hervey, Kail Boughman and Bradlee Thompson placing as quarterfinalists and octa-finalists.
