Perry Girls Youth Basketball Camp Dates/Location Announced

The Perry Girls Youth Basketball Camp dates and locations have been announced.  The camp will take place at the Edison Middle School Gymnasium from June 2nd through June 5th.  Girls entering grades 3-5 will participate from 9:00am-11:30am.  Girls entering grades 6-8 will participate from 12:30pm-3:00pm.

Perry High School Wrestlers Win State Individual Tournament Championship

StateChamps2014The Perry Wrestling team continued their season of dominance as they more than doubled the point total of 2nd place in winning their first ever State Individual Tournament to go along with their State Dual Tournament Championship last month.  David Bavery, Casey Sparkman, and Tony Dailey each won State Championships in their weight class.  That was the 2nd time for Bavery as he also won in 2012 and is a 4xState Placer.  Tommy Genetin, Jose Rodriguez, Jake Newhouse, and Nick Steed all finished Runner-Up.  Isaac Bast placed 3rd overall and Stephano Millin and Jason Spencer finished 5th and 7th respectively.

Lohr Wins 4th Grade Track Meet

On Wednesday May 15th, the annual elementary track meet was held at the Perry High School Track Stadium.  Genoa, Knapp, Lohr, Watson, and Whipple Elementary Schools each had 2 boys and 2 girls compete in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, Long Jump, and Softball Throw.  Each school also had a 4×100 meter relay team.  Lohr Elementary edged out Knapp in the final team standings by 4 points to win the combined team title with 98 points. Carlie Perretta Takes 11th at State

The Perry High School Swimming and Diving Team was represented this past weekend by Sophomore Carlie Perretta.  Carlie finished 11th in the 100 breaststroke with a new school record of 1:05.83.  She broke her own record.  Carlie walks away from the state meet with All-County, All-Ohio and All-Federal League honors.

Keith Wakefield Hired as Head Football Coach

Perry Local Schools would like to announce the hiring of Keith Wakefield as their next head football coach. Coach Wakefield is not new to Perry as he led the school to 11 Federal League Championships and 4 playoff appearances here. This includes a Final Four appearance in 2000.

“He is the right coach for our program at this point in time, in order to bring Perry’s program back to one of consistent competitiveness with other Federal League programs” said Perry Superintendent Dr. John Richard.

“As we reviewed the criteria for our next head coach, it led us directly to Keith Wakefield,” said athletic director Todd Sutton. “We are thrilled that he is the right fit, and is available and excited to be back at Perry!”

His career highlights include:

• 21 Years head coaching at Perry
• 11 Federal League Championships
• 6 years as Assistant Coach at Mount Union

There will be a meeting in the Perry High School Cafeteria Wednesday December 12th at 7:00pm for all football parents.

Mandatory Parent Meeting Thursday November 8th – 7:00pm

There will be a Mandatory OHSAA Parent Meeting for all winter sports next Thursday, November 8th at 7:00pm in the Theater. It will be a one hour meeting. If athletes have practice at the time of the meeting they are excused from attending. However they will need their parents to be in attendance.

Fall Sports Parent Meeting

Perry High School will have its Mandatory Parent Meeting for Fall Sports on Wednesday August 8th at 7:00pm in the Mattichione Theatre. This is for all fall sports athletes and required by OHSAA.

Perry Wrestlers Break School Record with 4 State Champions

Congratulation to the Perry wrestling team for setting a new school record by having four state champions! David Bavery, Mitch Newhouse, Zack Dailey, and Jo Jo Tayse had an outstanding performance and each was able to bring home a state championship medal! Isaac Bast and Josh Arrendale also had great performances by each placing 7th in the state. The team performance earned another state runner-up trophy for Perry High School.
