On Friday, October 22nd, the 2010 Inductees to the PHS Athletic Hall of Fame were announced during the Perry vs. Jackson football game. The 2011 class includes: Archie Herring (1986), Leslie Shoppelrey (1990) , Tom Pukys (1986), Dick Nelson (1962), Alison Heppe (1997), Chuck Jolliff (1981) and Jamie Howell (1984).
This year’s induction dinner will be Thursday, February 3, 2011, at 6:00pm at the Executive Events Center in Perry Township. Tickets are $30.00 and may be purchased by contacting Tracy Schlup at firstname.lastname@example.org or 330-477-8121 ext. 311.
The Perry Jr. High Wrestling Team has been working extremely hard this season and has enjoyed some success. But they are not content with what they have accomplished thus far.
The team is made up of 7th and 8th graders from Pfeiffer and Edison. This season they have first place finishes at the Wadsworth, Meadowbrook, Cambridge and Waynedale tournaments. They also finished first at the Federal League Dual Tournament with a record of 5-0.
In the process of winning the 41 field of teams, Perry defeated the New Jersey state champions who are currently ranked 10th in the country. Taking 1st place for Perry was Artem Timchenko, Mitch Newhouse, Zach Dailey, and Jo Jo Tayse. Anthony Wise was runner up, Doug Mayes 3rd Place, Tanner Lemon and David Bavery were 4th, Isaac Bast 7th, and Josh Arrendale finished in 8th place.
Special recognition goes out to Mitch Newhouse for defeating the nations top ranked wrestler and Pennsylvania’s defending State Champion. Come out this Tuesday, December 21st, and see our Nationally ranked wrestling team take on Boardman and Austintown Fitch. The match will start at 5:30 in the main gym.
The Swimming and Diving teams both defeated New Philly this past Friday. A new school record was set by senior Kyle Riordan in the 400 meter freestyle with a time of 4:21. The swimming and diving teams will be competing against Boardman at Youngstown State on Friday and at the CCS Chirstmas Invitational on Saturday.
Last night, December 14th, the PHS gymnastics team beat Wadsworth with an outstanding score of 133.85. Sophomore, Julie Emmert placed 4th on vault, 3rd on beam, 3rd on floor and 4th in the all-around. Freshman, Rachael Jackson placed 1st on vault, 1st on bars, 4th on beam, 4th on floor, and 3rd in the all-around. Senior, Natalie Kile placed 3rd on vault, 4th on bars, 1st on beam, 2nd on floor, and 2nd in the all-around. Senior, Emily Kile placed 2nd on vault, 2nd on bars, 2nd on beam, placed first on floor scoring a 9.25, and winning the all-around. Also contributing to the team win were Halle Copeland, Jessica Dragomir, Ariel Swogger, Amanda Alden, and Tori Callahan. The next meet is Monday night in Wooster, against Triway.
Perry Boys and Girls Swimming and Diving competed at Warren Harding Monday evening against Warren Harding High School and Lorain High School. Tyler Bargerhuff performed a personal best on the diving board with 135.7 points and a first place finish. Kyle Riordan finished first in the 500 yard freestyle and set a new pool record at Harding with a 5:01.29. The boys are now 1-1. (more…)
