Twenty-six students in Perry High School’s (PHS) Teacher Academy recently competed at the “Embrace Your Super Power” Educators Rising Ohio State Conference on Feb. 28 and March 1 at Capital University in Bexley, Ohio, and earned a number of impressive accolades. More than 800 students participated in the state competition from 47 different schools across Ohio. The competition incorporates numerous performance-based competitive events in which teenage aspiring teachers demonstrate their knowledge, skills and leadership in education. Eighteen students from Perry High School (PHS) have been selected to show their artwork at the 2019 Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition, a state-wide showcase open to the public at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus, Ohio. The exhibition, which is now in its 49th year, is part of a month-long celebration of the arts and arts education in Ohio. (more…)
The 2018-19 Perry Speech and Debate Team has solidified yet another successful season by claiming their second title in a row as Ohio Speech and Debate Association (OSDA) State Champions. Ninety-two schools from around the state of Ohio sent qualifiers to the OSDA State Finals, which was hosted Feb. 28 through March 2 by Jackson High School. Perry scored 85.5 sweepstakes, beating their previous record of 75, set in 2004. Perry’s appearance in this year’s finals now ties them with Austintown-Fitch High School for the most state team championships in OSDA history, totaling six titles. (more…)
The Perry Local Schools and Hayden’s Story have partnered to bring Link Crew to Perry High School next school year. Link Crew aims to make the transition into high school easier for freshmen by support and guidance from their peers. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward the Link Crew Leadership and Mentoring program. Click here for more information.

Perry High School recently received a $2,500 grant from Stark County Mental Health and Addiction Recovery (MHAR) to implement a school resiliency program called Link Crew, which aims to make the transition into high school easier for freshmen by providing the structure for them to receive support and guidance from peers. In support of the program, the non-profit corporation Hayden’s Story: The Hayden Porter Foundation made an additional $3,500 donation to support Link Crew. Hayden’s Story is a foundation that was formed by the family of Hayden Porter, a Perry student who took his own life in January of last year. The mission of Hayden’s Story is to develop solutions and offer support for the prevention of suicide, and the foundation is thereby working closely with Perry High School to implement Link Crew. They hope to eventually bring the same program to other area high schools and to develop scholarship funds for outstanding mentors and counseling resources. (more…)
