The Perry High School Mock Trial team competed at the Ohio Regional Competition on Friday in Akron. In the first trial, the team of Amanda Henderson, Stefanie McArthur, Howie Schilling, and Matt Talbot defeated North Canton Hoover. Winning Best lawyer award was Amanda Henderson and best witness award was Howie Schilling. In the second trial the team of Savannah Fox, Matt Meeks, Howie Schilling and Matt Talbot lost to Arch Bishop Hoban High School on a tiebreaker by one Point.
Last night the Championship Gymnastics Meet ended with Perry achieving total gymnastic domination over Massillon, McKinley, Timken and Sandy Valley. Reann Lung placed 4th on beam. Julie Emmert placed 4th on floor and 12th on bars. Tori Callahan placed 13th on vault and 7th on beam. Cortnee Beaver placed 11th on vault and 8th on bars. Emily Kile placed 1st on beam, 5th on bars, 3rd on vault, 1st on floor and 2nd in the all-around. Tara Dedmon placed 1st on vault, 3rd on bars, 3rd on beam, 3rd on floor and 3rd in the all-around. Natalie Kile placed 1st on bars, 2nd on vault, 2nd on beam, 4th on floor and won 1st in the all-around. A special shout out to Shannon Langanke as last night was her final meet of her high school career.
The following athletes qualified for the State Swimming and Diving Championships being held at Branin Natatorium this Friday and Saturday: Seth Brandenburg & Joe Cooper in the Diving; LePear Smith in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke and Kyle Riordan in the 200 and 500 Freestyles. LePear broke his own record in the breaststroke that he set last week at Sectionals with a time of 1:00.08 and Kyle shattered the 500 Freestyle school record set by Hideo Okubu in 1994, lowering it from 4:56 to 4:45.74.
At the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Sectional Gymnastics Tournament, Saturday, February 20th, Shera Kile was named Sectional Coach of the Year for the 2009-2010 season. The award was voted on by the other 17 head coaches present at Saturday’s competition. It is quite an honor. At the event, the team placed 7th out of 18 teams. The gymnastics team finished the regular season with a record of 8 and 2. This season’s final meet is Tuesday, February 23rd. The Winter Classic meet is at 5PM at the Massillon Armory.
Congratulations to the Perry Speech and Debate Team on qualifying four team members to the National Forensic League National Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri in June. Qualifiers are: Sara Liebler and Tony Mead, District Champions in Policy Debate, Nikki Lanka – Original Oratory, and Caleb Snyder – Humorous Interpretation. First alternates are: Kevin McDougal – International Extemp, and Jessica McCallum – Dramatic Interpretation.
At the swimming and diving district meet this weekend at Cleveland State, Seth Brandenberg and Joe Cooper both qualified for state in diving. Lepear Smith and Kyle Riordan both qualified in two events for the state meet. Congratulations to the girls district team consisting of Hailey Floom, Aex Hamit, Emily Kile and Emily Marino and to the boys district team also consisting of Tyler Lunsford, Matthew Thiessen, Grant Gillilan and Ryan Allen.
Best of luck to Seth and Joe who will be diving on Wednesday and Lepear and Kyle who will be swimming on Friday.

Perry’s Freshman Girls Basketball Team earned the Federal League Champion Title Saturday February 13, 2010 after a hard fought battle against the Jackson Polar Bears. The final score of the championship game was 35 to 28. The Panthers, led by Coach Mike White and his assistant Vicky Walker, started the season with two loses. But, with hard work, determination, and commitment to succeed the freshman went on a 15 game winning streak ending the season with a record of 15-2. A special congratulations goes out to Cataya, Becca, Allison, Kayla, Tianna, Taylor, Bri, Marwah, Kelly, Marissa, Olivia and the freshman coaches. You make Perry proud!
Maguire Taush, Reedurban fifth grader in Mrs. Marshal’s class, shows off his Valentines Day card box that he made into a replica of the Reedurban School building. He included pictures of the staff in each window. By the end of the class party, the replica was filled to the roof with special valentines from all of Maguire’s classmates.
