Preschool Screening for Special Needs Children

A screening for preschool children ages 3-5 who have suspected delays is scheduled for Thursday, March 31st at T. C. Knapp Elementary. This does not include children enrolling in Kindergarten for the 2011-2012 school year. If you have concerns that your preschool child may demonstrate significant delays in the areas of speech/language development, motor development, cognitive development, and/or social-emotional/behavioral development , please contact Lindsay Akers at 330-478-6174 for more information about scheduling a screening appointment. For more information on identifying and serving preschoolers with special needs, please access the Perry Local Preschool website through the Perry Local Schools website.

Pfeiffer student, Logan Robinson, wakes up very early one Saturday a month and rides his bike, rain or shine, to Perry Christian Church to volunteer for the Angel Food Ministry. He heard about the ministry that provides food at a low cost to local families from PCC Minister Craig Ott and decided to get involved over a year ago. Logan and other volunteers begin at 7:00am sorting and packaging food for pickup. At first, Logan just pushed carts and loaded groceries, but he has proven himself and now is responsible for more important jobs and ways of helping people. Logan takes his servitude very seriously, and even turns down leisure activities and sports events in order to do his duty at Angel Food. The adults involved have taken him under their wings and are instilling in an already amazing young man what it means to serve others with joy, compassion and unconditional love. He calls his fellow Angel Food workers his adult friends!

Weather Related Delay or Cancellation of School

With winter weather arriving, it is important for parents and students to be aware of our procedure for the delay or cancellation of school.

Two-Hour Delay: beginning this year, we are implementing a two-hour delay to be used on days in which we get hit with bad weather, but the weather is moving through relatively quickly. It will be a straight two-hour delay for all students across the district. Busses will arrive two hours later than normal, and school will begin exactly two hours later than normal.

School Closing: when school is canceled for the day, all practices and events at the elementary buildings, Pfeiffer, and Edison are canceled. Perry High School events and practices may or may not be canceled, depending on the weather and road conditions throughout the day. There will be no events or practices earlier than noon. District and high school administration will determine if practices and events may occur during the afternoon and/or evening. The district website will be updated throughout the day. (more…)
