Boys Win Federal League Championship, Girls Finish Runner-Up!

boyschampsThe Perry Boys Cross Country team traveled to Boettler Park in Green on Saturday to compete at the Federal League Championship. The team ran a great pack race placing four runners in the top 10 and five in the top 15. The team scored 46 points to edge Lake’s 48 points to become Federal League Champions for the 9th time in school history. They also knocked off defending-champion Jackson who finished with 60 points. Cole Morris and Johnny Stevenson finished 5th and 7th to earn 1st Team All-Federal League. Joey Fedor, Jason Lacourt, and Daniel Cronk finished 9th, 10th, and 15th to earn 2nd Team All-Federal League. Devin Halter finished 23rd to earn Honorable Mention All-Federal pushing Lake’s number five runner back a spot as well. Scott Essig finished 35th for the team as well.

img_0660The Girls Cross Country Team finished as Federal League Runner-up on Saturday. Madelyn Bartolone was individual champion earning her the League’s Runner of the Year Award. Lexi Echelberry and Elaine Bast also earned 1st Team Honors. Katie Williams and Andrea Hufstetler earned 2nd Team All-Federal League. Laura Genetin and Hope Price finished 26th and 31st overall.  Grace Volpe won the JV race.

The teams will race Saturday at Malone for the District Championship.  The top 5 teams and the top 20 individuals qualify to the Regional Championship at Boardman next week.

Both Teams Finish 3rd at Legends Meet


The girls with 2012 Olympian Bridget Franek

The boys and girls cross country teams traveled to the Trumbull County Fairgrounds to compete at the Legends Meet on Saturday.  The girls team placed 3rd out of 21 schools. A total team effort lead the ladies to their impressive finish. Madelyn Bartolone, Lexi Echelberry, and Elaine Bast each finished in the top 20 overall all finishing under 20 minutes.  Madelyn ran 18:56.4. Laura Genetin and Andrea Hufstetler also scored for the girls.


The boys with 2012 Olympian Bridget Franek

The boys cross country team finished 3rd overall out of 24 schools. Cole Morris, Johnny Stevenson, and Daniel Cronk each finished in the top 25 overall for individual awards. Joey Fedor and Jason Lacourt rounded out the scoring.  Cole, Johnny, Daniel, and Joey all ran under 17 minutes and the team had 10 runners under 18 minutes on the day.

The teams were presented their awards by Olympic Gold Medalist Dave Wottle and 2012 Olympian Bridget Franek for their efforts and there were many personal best and season best performances.

The teams will compete in the Federal League Championships this coming Saturday at Boettler Park in Green.

Girls 5th, Boys 7th at Stark County Championships

The Girls Cross Country Team placed 5th overall and 3rd in Division I at the Stark County Championships held at GlenOak HS this past Saturday. Madelyn Bartolone was 2nd in the race followed Elaine Bast in 16th to lead the team. The other scorers for the girls were Lexi Echelberry, Katie Williams, and Andrea Hufstetler.

The Boys Finished 7th overall and 4th in Division I. Cole Morris lead the team finishing 11th overall and Joey Fedor finished 24th.  Jason Lacourt, Devin Halter, and Daniel Cronk were the other scorers for the team.

The team will compete at the Legends Meet this weekend where 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist, Dave Wottle, will present the awards to the top 3 teams.


Boys Cross Country Nominated for Team of the Week

JJH_award_headerThe Perry Boys Cross Country Team has been nominated as one of MaxPreps/ Teams of the Week.  The boys won the Malone Invitational on Saturday with 50 points – 21 points ahead of runner-up Wooster.  The team placed six runners in the top 15 overall.

This weekly award is decided by fan vote and will conclude at noon on Monday, October 3rd. You may vote as often as you like.

Vote Massillon Perry – Boys Cross Country Team of the Week

Boys Win Malone Invitational, Maddy Bartolone Wins as Girls Place 3rd

15642The boys cross country team won the Malone Invitational on Saturday and placed 6 runners in the top 15 overall. The team scorers were Cole Morris, Jason Lacourt, Joey Fedor, Johnny Stevenson, and Daniel Cronk. Devin Halter, Nick Forchione, Alex Bevington, Kevin Echelberry, Jason Williams, Andrew Hoskins, and Everett Ewing also ran a personal best in addition to Jason Lacourt’s breakout race.

The girls cross country team placed 3rd overall at the Malone Invitational. Maddy Bartolone won her 2nd Invitational of the season leading the way. She was followed in scoring by Lexi Echelberry, Elaine Bast, Katie Williams, and Andrea Hufstetler. Brooke Waggoner and Frankie Ulrich also ran personal bests.

The teams will race at GlenOak Saturday for the Stark County Championships. Admission is just $2 per car to come support the teams.
