Scholastic Art Winner at the National Level
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers recently announced the 2016 Scholastic Art & Writing winners at the National level. National medalists represent less than 1% of the 2016 submissions. This year there were 320,000 works submitted and only 2,400 medals were awarded at the national level. Congratulations to Sierra Searfoss, Edison’s 8th-grade student who earned a national silver medal for her sculpture titled, Chinatown Polaroid. Kennedy Thomas, who is currently a freshman at the high school, also won a national silver medal for her painting, Annabelle Joy, that she created in Art II last spring. Since 1923, teenagers from across the country have received these awards and are now among the legacy of celebrated artists like Andy Warhol. Our visual art department could not be prouder of Sierra and Kennedy for earning these high honors! Congratulations!
