As coverage of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in China and throughout the world, including the U.S., has become more prevalent, our school system and the Stark County Health Department are fielding an increasing number of questions from anxious parents and residents. Please know that, as we do in all health-related cases, we are working closely together and receiving additional guidance from the Stark County Health Department, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Edison Middle School is excited to tell everyone about our Panther Pause Lab, also known as the S.M.A.R.T. Lab. S.M.A.R.T. stands for Stress Management and Resiliency Training. We recognize that many of our students experience stress, trauma, or challenges that impact their ability to make the most of their opportunity to learn. This intervention is designed to help build the social-emotional skills that enable students to be successful in the classroom setting. The Panther Pause/S.M.A.R.T. Lab is located in room 112. This is our first year having the Panther Pause Lab and listed below are some details:
- All students have received a classroom orientation to better understand the Lab and managing stress.
- Staff were also introduced and oriented to the Lab.
- The Lab is accessible to all students and staff, but there are times when it is closed for targeted interventions for smaller groups of students.
- We offer groups for students who would benefit from the Lab.
- We meet with individual students as they need support with stress management in the Lab.
If you have any additional questions about the Lab, please contact your student’s school counselor for more information. Website link: https://sites.google.com/view/perrysmartlab/home

A healthy breakfast at the start of the day is a great way to ensure students get the best education they can. National School Breakfast Week helps us educate parents and students about all the healthy, great tasting, and appealing choices Perry Schools offer. Each breakfast consists of whole grains, fresh fruit, juice and milk while limiting fat, calories and sodium.
Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:
Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math

Maintain a healthy weight
