Perry Local Fall 2020 Reopening Plan

As we approach the upcoming 2020-2021 school year, I know many of our students and their families/ guardians have a number of concerns. The administration team and Board of Education understands that; we have concerns as well. As such, the health, well-being and safety of all of our Perry students, staff members and their families has been the top priority when developing our Perry Local School District Fall 2020 Reopening Plan.  (CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE ENTIRE REOPENING PLAN, CLICK HERE FOR THE ENTIRE REOPENING PLAN IN SPANISH).

We considered many factors in the development of our plan, including the guidelines set forth by Governor DeWine, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) as well as local health officials. Our plan is based on our goal to provide a high-quality, standards-based curriculum that helps students achieve academic progress, focus on social-emotional learning and meet all of their other needs, whether in-person or online. Therefore, as we reopen, families will have the option to send their children to school or utilize the Virtual Learning Academy.

For families who choose the traditional, in-person educational model, there will also be a number of additional safety practices and procedures that must be adhered to. We are asking our parents/ guardians to assess their children for symptoms or a fever prior to sending them to school; if any symptoms are present, children must stay home. Students and staff members will be required to wear face coverings at all times while in school buildings and on school buses. Additionally, social distancing rules will also be implemented in all classrooms, buses, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gyms, libraries and any other common areas when possible. Reopening Plan Information – July 6, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we navigate through a unique time, it is our goal to create a reopening plan that will ease as much uncertainty as possible for our parents, guardians and students while answering as many questions as possible. We ask for your patience as we work through this process.  As many of you are now aware, this past Thursday Governor DeWine reviewed specific details of the state’s plan to reopen school buildings. The plan provides guidance on best practices that all Ohio school districts are expected to follow as they consider educational and programming options for the fall. During his address, the Governor provided several key points that we must consider here locally as we make decisions that will impact our students, families and staff members. The Governor’s guiding points included:
1. Parents and guardians assessing their child(ren) for symptoms and conducting daily health checks prior to their child(ren) attending school. Schools will be required to provide opportunities for students to wash their hands throughout the day in addition to providing hand sanitizer at all entrances and exits.
2. Continuing to educate your child(ren) on the importance of washing hands, not touching
one’s face and other best practices when it comes to hygienic guidelines.
3. Enhancing the schools cleaning protocols to ensure the safest possible environment for students and staff in all locations and places students gather such as playgrounds, classrooms, school busses, etc.
4. Continuing to practice social distancing. Schools should strive to maintain 6ft of distancing as often as possible. We know this will look different in every building and will require a great deal of flexibility.
5. Creating a face covering policy. While school staff will be required to wear masks unless unsafe or it interferes with the learning process, the district is exploring policy for students grades 3-12.
We have been working diligently for weeks to formulate several draft plan options in anticipation of this guidance. Now that these parameters and guidelines have been provided to us, we will immediately begin the finalization of our plans. We certainly understand the difficulty that this delay has caused our families with respect to planning. Additionally, we recognize that many of our students and families still feel uneasy about returning in the fall. We will continue to update the community on our recovery plan in the coming days and weeks. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we work through this process.

Grab & Go Meals for July

Perry Local Schools will continue to provide Grab & Go meals throughout the month of July (excluding July 3) at three locations:  Perry High School, Watson Elementary, Whipple Elementary.  Breakfast & Lunch Meal bags may be picked up: Monday thru Friday from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. All children 18 and under are eligible to receive these free meals.
