Genoa PE Promotes Healthy Habits

Calories in drinks are not hidden (they’re listed right on the Nutrition Facts label) but many people don’t realize just how many calories beverages can contribute to their daily intake.

The Rethink Your Drink information board, created by physical education teacher Ben Shenk, shows students and staff at Genoa Elementary School the amount of added sugar that is found in many of the drinks they may choose in a day. These beverages are full of empty calories and are linked to weight gain, poor diets, poor health, and tooth decay in children.

Mr. Shenk is hoping the information shown on the information board will help to steer students and staff to make healthy drink choices by choosing water and other healthy drinks instead of sugar sweetened drinks that are full of empty calories.
