Head Varsity Coach – Jeff Couto
Jeff Couto enters his first season as the varsity head coach of the Lady Panthers varsity basketball program after serving as an assistant with the Malone women’s basketball team during the 2010-2011 season. Before his role with Malone, Jeff served as the varsity head coach at Louisville High School from 1999-2008. During that time the Lady Leopards compiled a 127-74 record and captured three consecutive Northeastern Buckeye Conference championships from 2006-2008.
Coach Couto is a graduate of The Ohio State University and Ashland University. Jeff and his wife, Victoria, live in Louisville where he continues his role as an English teacher at Louisville High School. He started his teaching and coaching career with Streetsboro High School in 1988 and joined his alma mater in the fall of 1990. Coach Couto served the Louisville high school football program for 24 years, served as a varsity head coach in fastpitch softball for seven years, and was part of the boy’s basketball program for seven years.
Jeff and Victoria have three adult children. Tyler is an electrician here in Stark County, Marissa is a nurse with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and their youngest daughter, Brianna, is in the dental hygiene program at The Ohio State University in conjunction with Columbus State University.
Assistant Varsity – Beth Sternberg
Beth Sternberg is a graduate of East Canton High School where she earned 4 varsity basketball letters and received Stark County Player of the Year accolades in 2001. She is currently in the top 10 of All-Time scorers from Stark County. She continued her career at Walsh University where she became the school’s all-time leader in 3 point goals and finished with over 1,000 career points for the 2nd time. Her coaching experience began as a graduate assistant with The Lady Cavaliers before she became the varsity assistant for the Perry Girl’s Basketball program in 2007. She teaches 6th grade Language Arts at Pfeiffer Intermediate School and resides in Canton.
Assistant Varsity- Bob Pireu
Bob Pireu is in his third year as the varsity assistant coach for the Panthers. He also has spent the past five years running the girls basketball youth program. Bob has over twenty years of coaching experience starting back as the boys varsity assistant at Marlington High School from 1991-96. Bob was a four year varsity letter winner at Muskingum College (91”) and Graduated from St Thomas Aguinas in 1987 as an all-county player. Bob resides in Massillon with his wife Marti and their daughters, Karlee, Rylee and Marlee. He is the owner of Bob and Pete’s Floors.
JV Head Coach – Brian Layton
Brian is a first year Coach for the Lady Panthers. Prior to joining the Perry staff, Coach Layton had coached girl’s basketball at Canton South High School and Louisville High School. Coach Laton played basketball and football for Louisville High School and graduated in 1989. He attended Rio Grande University and is employed by The Timken Company.
