First Graders at Lohr Race to 40

IMG_1120Mrs. Deuble’s first grade class is learning how to add and subtract to forty with and without regrouping!

Students are engaged in learning a fun game with beans called “Race to 40.”  You roll a dice and get that many brown beans to put in the ones place.  Your partner rolls and does the same.  When you get ten or more ones you trade them in for a red bean, which represents  ten.  The first player who gets to forty is the winner!  First graders will play this game for learning subtraction regrouping as well. Players start with forty and the first to get to zero is the winner.

Feel free to try this game at home with your students.  It’s so much fun!
