Perry Local and YMCA of Stark County Partner

Perry Local Schools are proud to announce a partnership with the YMCA of Central Stark County and the YMCA of Western Stark County. Programs from  SilverSneakers to youth summer sports camps may be offered as early as this summer to the Perry community. Plans are to start with a few key programs and grow into what serves the community.

PHS Students Limitless on Love

Perry High School students Madi Chapanar, Sami Grochowski, Matti Vance, and Shane Stockall know that the smallest acts of kindness make the biggest difference. English Language Learners Program Big Success

Carolyn Stearns, Perry Local’s ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher, works with over 30 students in the Perry District to help them become proficient at English.  This program has been in Perry for the past seven years.  Mrs. Stearns works with students of all ages and her program was recently the subject of a news article in the Massillon Independent.  Click here to read the article and learn more about the English Language Learner program throughout Perry Schools.  Photo courtesy of B. PHS Speech Coach Inducted into Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Perry High School teacher and head speech coach, Mrs. Kathy Patron, for her induction into the Ohio High School Speech League Coaches’ Hall of Fame. In order to be eligible  for this honor, an individual has to have coached a minimum of 17 years and served as a member of any OHSSL committee.  Mrs. Patron was inducted in her first year of eligibility.

Over the course of her 17-year tenure, Mrs. Patron has coached an estimated 1,300 student competitors, some 85 state finalists, 6 state champions, 60 national qualifiers, and a national finalist. Thank you Mrs. Patron for your dedication to your students, and for making Perry proud!

Power of the Pen Competes at Mount Union

Congratulations to Edison’s Power of the Pen team who recently competed at Mount Union.  The writers did an excellent job with the 8th grade team taking 4th place overall out of 19 schools. Individual 8th grade placers were Samantha Rinaldi earning 15th place honors and Kelly Harter taking 14th place. Individual 7th grade placer was Kaitlyn McGeorge taking the 5th place spot. Great job to all competitors and runners!  The Power of the Pen Regionals team also competed at Malone University on Saturday, March 2.  Team members included seventh graders, Kaitlyn McGeorge, Justin Gillilan, Carlie Cooper, and Gavin Friedrichsen (runner) and eighth graders, Christen Miller, Sam Rinaldi, Cassidy Burger, and Kelly Harter. Many team members were successful, earning the rank of “1” in their writing rounds.  Individual honors went to Christen Miller, who placed 3rd overall and, in turn, qualified to the State Tournament in May! Christen also won the prestigious “Best of Round” Award for her story titled, “Wanted.” This was a very rewarding day for all of our writers and we are extremely proud.

PHS Choirs Qualify for State Contest

Congratulations to the Panther choirs!  This weekend, nearly 200 students performed at District Contest held at the East Muskingum Schools in New Concord, OH.  Three of Perry’s ensembles earned Superior ratings and the honor of qualifying for States!  Earning top honors were our Symphonic Choir, Treblemakers and, for the first time EVER, our Bel Canto freshmen girls’ ensemble.  Lyrics performed as well, earning a rating of Excellent.  Our three Superior choirs will perform next at States on April 26 & 27.  Congratulations to you all!!

PHS Bands Qualify for State Band Finals

For the third consecutive year the Perry High School Band has qualified for the Ohio Music Association’s State Band Finals. Both the Symphonic Winds and Concert Band earned perfect scores to punch their tickets to the state tournament. Congratulations to members of the band, teachers, parents, and volunteers for their dedication and support. You make Perry proud!

PHS Speech & Debate Place 10th at State

Congratulations to the Perry Speech and Debate Team on their 10th place finish out of 89 teams competing at the Ohio High School Speech League State Tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 1st and 2nd.  State Finalists are:  Alexis Klaiber – 5th place in Humorous Interp and Hayden Smith – 6th place in United States Extemp.  State semi-finalists include:  Chelsey Ferris – Prose Poetry and Shane Stockall – International Extemp Quarter-finalists are:  Karen Zimmer and Corey Anderson – Policy Debate, Anna Stanford – Drama, Abby Rapp – Prose/Poetry, Michael Barth and Allison Bailey – Duo Interp, Morgan Craig – Original Oratory, and Bobby Craig – Original Oratory.  Congratulations team!  You make Perry proud.
