Congratulations to the Perry Speech and Debate Team on their top five finish at the Ohio High School Speech League State Tournament at Boardman and Canfield High Schools this past weekend. Perry earned fifth place honors overall, which was the best finish for any Stark County High School in the competition. At this time, the team is pleased to announce that we brought home the State Champion in Prose/Poetry Reading. Congratulations to senior, Tessa Polen, who was named champion in this event after two days and seven elimination rounds of competition! Tessa rocked the field of over 70 competitors to be the last person standing at the awards ceremony on Saturday night! Congratulations to state finalists Christian Lisik and Jenna Shinsky who took third place in Policy Debate, and Alexis Hendershot and Shannon Howley on taking fourth place honors, also in Policy Debate. Michael Eagon advanced to the final round of Student Congressional Debate. State semi-finalists are: Leah Reese and Noah Ott (Duo); Clay Owens (International Extemp); Alexis Collins (Oratorical); Ethan Peterson (Dramatic Interp); Jade Gower (Prose/Poetry); and Jake Zartman (Student Congressional Debate). Quarter-finalists are: Anna Huntsman (Original); Katy Krepp (USX) Hunter Wooldridge and Sean Elofskey (Duo), Troy Kind (Prose/Poetry), and Macy Kittelberger (Expository).
