The Perry High School Marching Band wrapped up their 2014 season with a second straight Superior Rating at the OMEA State Marching Band Finals in Dayton. The Marching Panthers had another outstanding year, earning Superior ratings at every competition they attended. Throughout their season, the band competed against over 125 marching bands from across Ohio bringing home awards for Best Visual, Best Auxiliary, Best Percussion, and Reserve Grand Champions. In October, the Panthers earned the highest music score in school history at the Maysville Band Competition. In addition, the Marching Band has now earned 8 consecutive Superior ratings dating back to 2012, and has qualified for OMEA State Finals for 4 consecutive years. The Perry Band program has earned a reputation as one of the best in the state.
Perry High School is pleased to announce that two student athletes have received Division I scholarships during the NCAA early signing period. The first athlete is Kassidy Troxell, a senior softball player who signed with Division I St. Francis University in Pennsylvania. Kassidy’s career batting average is .521, and her accomplishments include being named First- Team All Federal League in 2013 and 2014 and Honorable Mention All- Northeast Ohio in 2013 and 2014. Kassidy also holds a 3.9 GPA, and she is ranked fifteenth in her class. The second athlete is senior Jose Rodriquez, who signed with The Ohio State University to receive a Division I wrestling scholarship. Jose’s accomplishments are outstanding. He is currently ranked fourth in the high school national wrestling rankings in the 126-pound weight class. He is a three-time state finalist and a state champion in 2013. His other honors include being an Ironman finalist in 2013, finishing third in the Beast of the East competition, winning the Virginia Beach National Championship, becoming a finalist in the 2014 Super 32 National Challenge and being named a 2013 Cadet Freestyle Fargo, ND All- American.
Even though it was a cold, rainy day in November, it felt warm and sunny at Edison Middle School as Mrs. Budd made an appearance in parade fashion. Edison’s students and staff lined the driveway of Edison to welcome Mrs. Budd home with signs, cheers, and tears. The band played spirit songs and the victory bell rang as Mrs. Budd waved to her biggest supporters—the Edison Team. It was a very special day!
In an effort to increase district communication with our families, the Department of Pupil Services for Perry Local Schools has released the November edition of their Newsletter for Families of Disabilities. This communication provides important information and resources for Perry families with students at all levels and abilities.
Edison Jr. T.I. sponsored Red Ribbon Week this year from Oct. 27-31. The slogan for the week was “Join the FIGHT Against Drugs” and was portrayed in a military style. Jr. T.I. members decorated the school showcase, made announcements throughout the week, and wrote and recorded a drug awareness video to be shown to their classmates. All students were asked to participate in themed dress up days including pajama day (Don’t let drugs destroy your dreams), twin day (Don’t let drugs be your other half), camouflage day (Don’t let drugs hide the real you), retro day (Stay away from drugs, you can’t go back in time), and crazy hair/mismatch day (Mess up your clothes, not your life). The events were capped off with a luau dance on November 7th titled “Drug Free Perrydise.” The Jr. T.I. members hoped to show their classmates that there are many ways to have fun that don’t involve alcohol or drugs.
In honor of Veterans Day, Edison Middle School students successfully raised $1300.00 to donate to the Dan Patron Scholarship Fund. Students purchased red, white, & blue chain links to decorate the hallways. The students also were able to view parts of the documentary Collecting Sgt Dan to gain a more personal connection in honoring all members of the military.
The State Superior Perry High School Bands will host a fundraiser at Five Guys Burgers and Fries (map) on Tuesday, November 18th from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
