Genoa Elementary School was awarded a grant from Arts In Stark to create linoleum block prints of the one room schoolhouse on Genoa Avenue. Fourth graders participated in this project in an effort to learn more about our school’s history, experience a new art technique, and help raise awareness and funds for the one room school renovation. Thank you Team Genoa, Perry History Club, Art Historian – Kathleen Wieschaus and Arts In Stark for this wonderful opportunity. Click here to view a video on the project.
Edison Middle School is sponsoring a blood drive.If you would kindly help by donating not only will you help save lives, but our school will also receive a fundraising grant. The Blood Drive will be open at Edison from 3:00-7:00pm on May 22nd. Please be sure to bring a photo ID. Thank you for your help!
Rookie Camp for all 2014-2015 incoming Freshmen band members will be held at PHS on Friday, May 30th from 1:30-4:00 PM. This is a required event for all 2014-2015 incoming Freshmen who will be participating in the PHS Marching Band.
Uniform fitting date for all PHS Freshmen Band members will be Tuesday, July 8th from 6-8 PM.
Saturday, May 24th, will be a screening of the documentary film, Collecting Sgt. Dan in the PHS Mattachione Theatre. This project was filmed and directed by Perry’s own Matthew Patron. The film chronicles the beautiful life and tragic death of Matthew’s brother, Sgt. Daniel Patron, another Perry graduate and Marine EOD technician. Don’t miss out on this viewing experience; this will be the final public screening in this area. The movie will begin at 7 PM and admission is free (no reserved ticket required). DVDs and t-shirts will be available for purchase at the conclusion of the film. The screening coincides with this Memorial Day weekend’s Flags of Freedom events taking place at the Perry High School Veteran’s Memorial. If you have not had a chance to see this fitting tribute to a local hero, please join us! If you would like to see it again, come and bring a friend!
The Perry Girls Youth Basketball Camp dates and locations have been announced. The camp will take place at the Edison Middle School Gymnasium from June 2nd through June 5th. Girls entering grades 3-5 will participate from 9:00am-11:30am. Girls entering grades 6-8 will participate from 12:30pm-3:00pm.

On Wednesday, May 14th, over 50 athletes from the Perry Local Elementary Schools competed in the annual 4th grade track meet. After much great competition and school spirit, Lohr Elementary repeated as Elementary Track Champions. Lohr took the crown with an overall score of 102 points with Watson Elementary coming in 2nd with 84 points. The events were the 100m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, 4X100m relay, long jump, and the softball throw.
Due to the inclement weather in the area, the Perry High School Powder Puff game for Wednesday, May 14th has been rescheduled for Monday, May 19th at 7:30 pm. That’s right, it’s Monday Night Football for Powder Puff. Make your plans to attend. Tickets are $5 at the gate.
Congratulations to the PHS Choirs! On Friday, May 2, the Symphonic Choir, Lyrics, Bel Canto and Kinsmen performed at State Contest at Jackson High School. For the first time in over a decade, every choir–that’s EVERY member of the Vocal Music Department–received a Superior rating, the highest rating granted to any performing ensemble! The evening was the culmination of months of hard work, long rehearsals, and dedication. Congratulations to our music students for their outstanding and passionate performances!
