Expert Expo – May 7th @ Whipple

giftedexpoOn Thursday, May 7th, Whipple Heights Elementary will be hosting our district’s 1st Annual “Expert Expo!” All 55 of our district’s students participating in the gifted program will come together in Whipple’s gym to display the research projects they have been working on for the past five weeks. The students are very eager to show their amazing work. Everyone is welcome to stop by and check out the Expert Expo on May 7th from 5:30-7:00pm!

Perry Bands in the Round – Thursday, May 7 @ 7 pm

Honor-BandThe 2015 edition of Perry Bands in the Round will take place on Thursday, May 7th at 7:00 PM in the Perry High School gymnasium. Grade level bands in 6th through 8th, the Perry Concert Band, Jazz Band and the Perry Symphonic Winds Band will all perform. Tickets for the event are $6 at the door. Gift baskets will be on display for raffle. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5.


Perry Baseball Hosting Veterans Night – Friday, May 22nd @ 7 PM

VeteransNightPerry varsity baseball will be hosting Veterans Night at 7:00 PM on Friday, May 22nd. PHS Band and Choir State Contest Results

Congratulations to all four of the PHS choirs for outstanding performances–Symphonic, Kinsmen and Treblemakers all earned Superior ratings and Lyrics earned an Excellent. Congratulations to the members of the Perry Symphonic Winds and the Perry High School Concert Band! Both groups earned Superior ratings this weekend at OMEA State Finals! For the first time, Perry has 3 bands that have earned Superior ratings at OMEA State Finals in the same year: Marching Band, Symphonic Winds, and Concert Bands. Go Perry!

Service Arrangements for Marlene Capuano

Black TransparentPerry Local Schools wish to express condolences to the Capuano family on the recent passing of Marlene.  Marlene was a 1961 Perry grad, district transportation supervisor, board member and major supporter of the Perry schools family.  Calling hours will be held Friday, April 24th at Rossi Funeral Home from 10:30 AM till 12:30 PM.  A Funeral Mass & Eulogy Celebration will be at 1:30 PM at St. Joan of Arc Church followed by a procession to Calvary Cemetery.  Marlene’s obituary can be read here.

Edison Students Transform Classroom to Coffee House

IMG_5679The students and teachers at Edison Middle School take April’s National Poetry Month very seriously.  They take it so seriously, in fact, that they transformed a classroom into a Poetry Coffee House—complete with a student-created backdrop, lava lights, and treats.  The entire seventh grade attended the “Coffee House” to share original poems with one another.  In the tradition of the “Beatniks” of the 1950’s, students were encouraged to replace conventional applause with snapping and shouts of, “Cool, Daddy-O!” Also, following the “Beatnik” style of dress, everyone—including teachers and guests, were asked to dress in black.  This practice allows the audience to focus on the words of the poet presenting, rather than becoming distracted by an outward appearance.  (more…)

Math Camp Opportunity for Current Perry 4th Graders

Perry Local Schools is offering Spark Camp again this summer! This is a math camp for current Perry 4th grade students who will be entering 5th grade in the fall.  Spark Camp will give students enriching lessons taught by fifth grade math teacher, Kelsey Whitfield. Lessons will spark growth and longevity in math skills over the summer. These lessons cover the high-frequency standards that students will learn in fifth grade. Create a successful and fun start to your fifth grade year, meet new friends, learn your way around Pfeiffer and get a head start on fifth grade math!
