PHS Bands Earn Superior Ratings

Congratulations to the Perry Symphonic Winds and the Perry Concert Band for earning superior ratings at OMEA District Contest this past weekend.  Both bands received perfect scores of straight ones.  Symphonic Winds have now earned perfect scores for 3 consecutive years and this is the 5th year in a row that  both bands have qualified for State Contest!

Edison Blood Drive-Wednesday-March 18th-9:30am-1:30pm

lifeshare20220colorEdison Middle School is sponsoring a blood drive.If you would kindly help by donating not only will you help save lives, but our school will also receive a fundraising grant.  The Blood Drive will be open at Edison from 9:30am-1:30pm on March 18th. Please be sure to bring a photo ID. Thank you for your help!

Ohio Governor’s Youth Art State Qualifiers

The Ohio Governor’s State Art Competition is dedicated to the educational and artistic advancement of our talented young people in the state of Ohio. From the 12,000 regional entries, approximately 2,500 are selected to enter the state judging. State jurors then select 300 for the actual exhibition, with 25 of the 300 chosen to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence. Scholarships are offered to seniors by over 30 universities and colleges of art. (more…)

PHS Speech and Debate 5th in State, Tessa Polen State Champ

IMG_4227Congratulations to the Perry Speech and Debate Team on their top five finish at the Ohio High School Speech League State Tournament at Boardman and Canfield High Schools this past weekend.  Perry earned fifth place honors overall, which was the best finish for any Stark County High School in the competition.  At this time, the team is pleased to announce that we brought home the State Champion in Prose/Poetry Reading.  Congratulations to senior, Tessa Polen, who was named champion in this event after two days and seven elimination rounds of competition!  Tessa rocked the field of over 70 competitors to be the last person standing at the awards ceremony on Saturday night!  Congratulations to state finalists Christian Lisik and Jenna Shinsky who took third place in Policy Debate, and Alexis Hendershot and Shannon Howley on taking fourth place honors, also in Policy Debate. Michael Eagon advanced to the final round of Student Congressional Debate.  State semi-finalists are: Leah Reese and Noah Ott (Duo); Clay Owens (International Extemp); Alexis Collins (Oratorical); Ethan Peterson (Dramatic Interp); Jade Gower (Prose/Poetry); and Jake Zartman (Student Congressional Debate).  Quarter-finalists are: Anna Huntsman (Original); Katy Krepp (USX) Hunter Wooldridge and Sean Elofskey (Duo), Troy  Kind (Prose/Poetry), and Macy Kittelberger (Expository).  Congratulations on a great season!  You make Perry proud!

Lucas Kelley State Champ, Keishaun Sims 4th

The Perry Track and Field team wrapped up its indoor season this past weekend at the State Indoor Track and Field Championships.  Lucas Kelley vaulted his way to a State Championship in a new indoor record jump of 15 feet 6 inches.  That mark goes down as one of the top 6 performances ever at the state indoor meet.  Keishaun Sims high jumped 6 feet 4 inches en route to a 4th place finish.  Later in the day, Keishaun tripled jumped 41 feet 6 inches for a new school record and a 7th place state finish.  Their efforts gave Perry a top 10 finish in the state.  Congratulations Lucas and Keishaun on wrapping up a fine indoor season.

Whipple Reading Therapy Dog is a National Finalist

jada_whippleMeet Jada, a 10 year old mixed breed dog saved from the shelter as a puppy by Cindy Zutavern.  Jada is now a trained reading therapy dog who has been creating miracles with kindergarteners in Mrs. Logan’s class at Whipple.  Jada was entered in a contest about how reading therapy dogs are helping in classrooms and we have been selected as a national finalist!   (more…)

Perry History Club Holding Pancake Breakfast

The Perry History Club (PHC) will be holding a pancake breakfast fundraiser for the 1893 Genoa School on Saturday, March 21st from 7:30 AM – 11:00 AM at the Perry  Grange. Tickets for the fundraiser are $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under. You can purchase tickets from a PHC member or at the door.
