Over the next two weeks, students of the Broadcast I class at PHS will be gaining real world experience.  For several years, the class has taken their complete TV studio out to the Elementary schools to create a DVD of the Holiday programs.  The students set up cameras, run cables, work with headsets, create graphics, and film each live program with three cameras.  The final product is a DVD that parents can purchase for $10.  This activity is one of the favorite times of the year for the broadcast teacher, Keith Brown.  “I really enjoy getting the students out of the classroom and into a real life situation for broadcasting.  If we don’t get the shot on a live program, they won’t start over for us.”  The teamwork, communication and technology used for the recording of these programs are all beneficial skills to have for life.

Each student was presented with a certificate, mini “lunchbucket” and had their name read over the P.A. to recognize this achievement.  Great Job!

Mr. Hick’s Class – Sam Gabehart

The fourth graders in Mrs. Edgein’s class recently read a story called “Me and Uncle Romie”.  In the story, James takes a trip to visit his aunt and uncle in New York.  During his visit, James and Uncle Romie, who is a collage artist, have a wonderfully memorable time together.  As James is leaving, Uncle Romie gives him a collage to help him remember his visit.  The students wrote a descriptive paragraph telling about a collage they would like Uncle Romie to create for them.  Then they made collages that reflected their writing.

This fall students in Mrs. Davis’ art club participated in the 2014 Kindness Art Contest. This contest was part of the Stark County Library’s selection of Wonder as its One Book, One Community initiative. Students were tasked with creating a  poster that illustrated a precept, or a rule, about how people should behave.  The focus was on kindness and how to treat others.  Kara Hill’s artwork was chosen as one of the grand prize winners out of over 275  submissions county wide!  Look for her artwork featured on the billboard near Lincon Way and Rhor. Congratulations Kara!
