Help Edison Team Win National Competition

RubeGoldberg CompetionYou can help a team of Edison students win the People’s Choice Award as part of the 2014 International Online Rube Goldberg Machine Contest. The team, comprised of 13 seventh and eighth grade students, designed and built a simple machine that solved a task. This year’s task: Zip a Zipper. Starting the second week of March, the students worked every morning for 40 minutes (during homeroom) and also came in for a five and one half hour session over spring break.

Bands in the Round, May 8th

birThe end of the school year is fast approaching, and that means everyone’s favorite night of the year is almost here!  Bands In The Round will be held on May 8th, at 7:00 PM in the PHS Main Gym.  Tickets are $6.00 per person and will be sold at the door.  If you are planning to use your Palace Tickets for admission, you must present those tickets at the door.  

Lohr Reading Fiesta!

IMG_0857Learning is always fun at Lohr!  Our literacy night included Jasper our Mexican burro, nachos & cheese and cinnamon cookies (sponsored by the fabulous Lohr PTO), story telling by Mr. Ryan, Perry’s Assistant Superintendent, Mexican Hat Dance lessons with Mrs. Wendt, pinata making, fraction fajitas and Mexican jumping bean patterns.  It was a wonderful evening filled with literacy and math activities, ideas, prizes from the pinata and of course pictures with Jasper.  We had a tremendous turn out… over 140 students! Thank you to the students and families that participated and to all the teachers that put in time and energy to make this evening a success.

Perry Police Hosting Awareness Program

PerryTwnshpPoliceThe Perry Township Police Department will be hosting Hidden in Plain Sight on Wednesday, April 16th at 7:00 PM in the Edison Middle School gymnasium. Doors will open at 6:30 PM. Hidden in Plain Sight is a parent/guardian awareness program for adults only presented by the Bath and Copley Police Departments. The program is designed to give parents/guardians information indicative to dangerous and risky behaviors. The program features an interactive exhibit designed to resemble a teenager’s bedroom. Other topics include substance abuse, violence, juvenile crime, eating disorders, technology, risky games/challenges, and much more. Edison Wrestling State Duals Champs!

EdisonchampsThe Perry Edison Wrestling Team competed at the OAC State Duals Tournament on Sunday February 23rd.   When the dust settled, the team had captured Perry’s First Jr. High State Championship.  The team went 5 and 0 on the day by  the following scores:

Members of the team that competed on Sunday are:  Jacob Williams,  Chase Norman,  Kyle Gruber,  Darese Sparkman,  Stone Tausch,  Jebrell Andrews,  Luke Millin,  Cullen Kopan,  Emil Soehnlen,   Nick Groves,  Skylor Castello,  Zach Blackiston,  Max Baker,  Jarin Curtis, Matt Takacs,  and Logan Wise.  OAC rules permit up to four wrestlers from outside the school and former Perry students Nick Shephard and Luke Dye, as well as Jackson’s Victor Marcelli also contributed. Other Edison team members (not competing on Sunday) are:  Gavin Carney,  Zach Heath,  Dylan Lones,  Chandler Michaels,  Zak Searfoss,  Brian Stevenson,  and Kohner Walters. The team is guided by Head Coach Shaun Smith, and assistants Jason Wise, Emil Soehnlen and Dick Maier.

Unused or Expired Medication Disposal

Pi Day Raises Money for Matt McLeese Mission

Pi DayOn Friday, March 14th Perry High School students and staff celebrated the great mathematical holiday, Pi Day.  Students in Mrs. Meinke’s classes prepared the pies and we are happy to report that every single pie was sold!  We were able to raise $378 for the Matt McLeese Mission.  A big thanks to the students, staff and cafeteria workers whose combined efforts made it all possible.

PHS Competition Cheer Team Takes 10th in State

20140316_210931We would like to congratulate Perry High School’s competition cheerleaders for placing tenth in the state division I cheer competition on Sunday, March 16th at Bowling Green State University out of 21 teams.  We are so proud of you!  You make perry proud.
