Congratulations to the Panther choirs! This weekend, nearly 200 students performed at District Contest held at the East Muskingum Schools in New Concord, OH. Three of Perry’s ensembles earned Superior ratings and the honor of qualifying for States! Earning top honors were our Symphonic Choir, Treblemakers and, for the first time EVER, our Bel Canto freshmen girls’ ensemble. Lyrics performed as well, earning a rating of Excellent. Our three Superior choirs will perform next at States on April 26 & 27. Congratulations to you all!!

For the third consecutive year the Perry High School Band has qualified for the Ohio Music Association’s State Band Finals. Both the Symphonic Winds and Concert Band earned perfect scores to punch their tickets to the state tournament. Congratulations to members of the band, teachers, parents, and volunteers for their dedication and support. You make Perry proud!
Congratulations to the Perry Speech and Debate Team on their 10th place finish out of 89 teams competing at the Ohio High School Speech League State Tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 1st and 2nd. State Finalists are: Alexis Klaiber – 5th place in Humorous Interp and Hayden Smith – 6th place in United States Extemp. State semi-finalists include: Chelsey Ferris – Prose Poetry and Shane Stockall – International Extemp Quarter-finalists are: Karen Zimmer and Corey Anderson – Policy Debate, Anna Stanford – Drama, Abby Rapp – Prose/Poetry, Michael Barth and Allison Bailey – Duo Interp, Morgan Craig – Original Oratory, and Bobby Craig – Original Oratory. Congratulations team! You make Perry proud.

The Perry High School wrestling team went to Columbus for the State Wrestling Tournament and came back with plenty of hardware. JoJo Tayse (left) and Jose Rodriguez (right) both claimed State Champion in their weight class. Other wrestlers placing in the top eight are David Bavery – 3rd place, Casey Sparkman – 4th place, Tony Dailey – 5th place, Isaac Bast and Bruno Millin with 8th place. The team finished 2nd overall. Congratulations to the Girls Bowling Team on their 7th place finish at the State Tournament this past weekend. Congratulations to Heather Brownsword for finishing 15th overall and receiving honorable mention All-Ohio! Congratulations to the Boys and Girls varsity teams for a great season. They are Federal League and Stark County Champs! The Girls went undefeated (18-0) and the Boys finished up at (17-2) Both great seasons!
Perry Local Schools will be celebrating National School Breakfast Week March, 4 – 8 2013. National School Breakfast Week is a weeklong celebration aimed at increasing awareness of the School Breakfast Program among students and parents. The Perry High School Swimming and Diving Team was represented this past weekend by Sophomore Carlie Perretta. Carlie finished 11th in the 100 breaststroke with a new school record of 1:05.83. She broke her own record. Carlie walks away from the state meet with All-County, All-Ohio and All-Federal League honors.
For the 10th consecutive year, Perry Local Schools has been rated Excellent by the State of Ohio. The report cards for the 2011-2012 school year were officially released on February 27, 2013.
