Keith Wakefield Hired as Head Football Coach

Perry Local Schools would like to announce the hiring of Keith Wakefield as their next head football coach. Coach Wakefield is not new to Perry as he led the school to 11 Federal League Championships and 4 playoff appearances here. This includes a Final Four appearance in 2000.

“He is the right coach for our program at this point in time, in order to bring Perry’s program back to one of consistent competitiveness with other Federal League programs” said Perry Superintendent Dr. John Richard.

“As we reviewed the criteria for our next head coach, it led us directly to Keith Wakefield,” said athletic director Todd Sutton. “We are thrilled that he is the right fit, and is available and excited to be back at Perry!”

His career highlights include:

• 21 Years head coaching at Perry
• 11 Federal League Championships
• 6 years as Assistant Coach at Mount Union

There will be a meeting in the Perry High School Cafeteria Wednesday December 12th at 7:00pm for all football parents.

Speech and Debate Take Louisville

Congratulations to the Perry Speech and Debate Team for taking first place sweepstakes honors at the Louisville All Events tournament last weekend!  Champions and their events are:  Karen Zimmer and Corey Anderson – Policy Debate, and Michael Audi and Jake Zartman – Student Congress.  Also receiving individual honors:  Kristel Doong, Jaret Hughes, Alex Mohney, Mitchell Yerian, Shannon Howley, Alexis Hendershot, Daniel Hinchliffe, Destany Knutty, Calvin Curtin, Mikayla Frutschy, Samantha Lechner, Mackenzie Vega, Michael Barth, Garrett Graber, Shane Stockall, Brittney Howiler, Sarah Beadle, Chelsey Ferris, Abby Rapp, Hayden Smith, and Katey Krepp.  Let’s keep on rocking it, Perry!!

Perry High School HOF Tickets

The class of 2013 PHS Athletic Hall of Fame will be introduced to the public on Friday, January 18th, during halftime of the varsity boys basketball game vs. Jackson.  The Inductees Banquet will be held the following night on Saturday, January 19th at the Executive Events Center.

Speech and Debate Teams Take Wadsworth Tournament

Congratulations to the Perry Speech and Debate Team, who once again took first place honors at the Wadsworth Tournament this past weekend! In Policy Debate, it was Jaret Hughes and Kristel Doong taking 5th, Alex Mohney and Mitchell Yerian taking 4th and rounding off Policy with 2nd place honors was Alexis Hendershot and Shannon Howley. In Duo Interpretation, the team of Morgan Ferrell and Aaron Brown took 6th place. In Humorous Interpretation, Lexy Klaiber took 4th and Anna Hunstman took 2nd place honors. In International Extemp, Shane Stockall was the tournament Champion. In United States Extemp, taking 6th place was Hayden Smith. In Lincoln Douglas Debate, Dominick Batchi took 4th place. In Original Oratory Bobby Craig took 2nd  place and Morgan Craig was the tournament champion. In prose and poetry, Tessa Polen took 6th place honors. Rounding off the tournament in Student Congress, in chamber A, Mike Audi took 4thplace, in chamber B, Calvin Curtain took 2nd place and in chamber C, Zach James was the tournament champion. Congratulations to Perry and good luck at Copley and Glenbrooks this weekend!

PHS Speech and Debate take 1st Place!

Congratulations to the Perry Forensics Speech and Debate Team for taking top honors at the 52nd annual Perry Speech and Debate tournament this past weekend.  Receiving individual honors were Tessa Polen – Prose Poetry Champion and proud new owner of a Perry Champion director’s chair; Morgan Craig – Original Oratory, Kole Chaney and Chelsey Keller – Humorous Interp, Dominic Batchi – Lincoln/Douglas Debate, Abby Rapp – Prose/Poetry, Shane Stockall – International Extemp, Karen Zimmer and Corey Anderson – Policy Debate, Calvin Curtin – Student Congress, and Garrett Graber – Impromptu Speaking.  This was a superb team effort; congratulations Perry Speech and Debate.  You rock!

At a recent meeting of the Perry High School Athletic Hall Of Fame Committee, votes were cast to choose the Class Of 2013. We are proud to announce the following former Panther athletes that will now be enshrined into the hall. They are:

Parent Workshop at Edison: Cyber Bullying

Edison Middle School is hosting a parent workshop for all Perry parents on Thursday Nov. 8th from 6:00-7:00pm in the Edison gym.  The workshop focuses around Cyber Bullying and legal ramifications of online harassment.  The workshop also touches on cyber safety tips for parents to help their children practice on-line safety and also become more cyber responsible users. The presenters are Judge Rosemarie Hall and Jacob Morgan, Stark County Family court specialist.   We hope to see you there!

Mandatory Parent Meeting Thursday November 8th – 7:00pm

There will be a Mandatory OHSAA Parent Meeting for all winter sports next Thursday, November 8th at 7:00pm in the Theater. It will be a one hour meeting. If athletes have practice at the time of the meeting they are excused from attending. However they will need their parents to be in attendance.
