Congratulations to the Perry wrestling team for defeating McKinley 76-0 last night!

Our nationally ranked wrestling team will travel to the “Alliance Top Gun” tournament this weekend to face the #2 ranked team in the country. Good luck to our wrestling team !  Speaking of sports, let’s take a few minutes and take a look at the gymnastics team….The gymnastics team next meet is Tuesday night, January 18 at six o’clock at Diva Gymnastics on Southway.

2011-2012 Student Orientation Meetings

Perry High School will be hosting a parent orientation meeting for 2011-2012 9th and 10th grade students January 27th in the auditorium.

8th Grade: no orientation night scheduled
9th Grade: 6:00-6:45 p.m.  Registration information
10th Grade: 7:15-8:00  Registration information

The Perry wrestling team

took 2nd place at the Ohio State Duals this past weekend.  Perry defeated Dayton Beavercreek in the first round 55-6, Wadsworth in the Semi-Finals 28-21, and they lost a hard fought match with St. Edward in the finals.  The Panthers next match is Thursday against McKinley.

The Varsity Gold Wrestling Team

was in attendance at the Fairless Invitational this past weekend.  The Panther wrestlers pulled together as a team with 10 wrestlers placing and scoring 173 team points to take home team runner-up honors.  Placing for the Panthers were Jamie Norris 1st, Stanley Spangler 1st, Bruno Millin 3rd, Oleksii Vouk 2nd, Dana Fisher 4th, and Mitchell Briggs 3rd.


Congratulations to Senior, Matthew Meeks. Matt has been named a semifinalist for the 2011 Class of the Coca-Cola Scholars Program. With the 2011 class, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will have provided more than 4,700 young scholars nationwide with over $44 million in scholarships.
Matthew Meeks ranks with approximately 2,100 high school seniors who are in the running for $3 million in college scholarships that Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation will award in spring 2011. Students are selected to advance to this next phase based on the academic excellence, leadership and achievement demonstrated in school and community activities.
As a semifinalist, Matthew Meeks must submit additional information that will be reviewed in January 2011 by a committee. If advanced to finalist status, Matthew will be among 250 finalists who will travel to Atlanta April 14-17 to attend the Coca-Cola Scholars Weekend receiving either a $20,000 National Scholar Award or $10,000 Regional Scholar Award.

PHS Wrestlers Win King of the Mountain Tournament

In the process of winning the 41 field of teams, Perry defeated the New Jersey state champions who are currently ranked 10th in the country. Taking 1st place for Perry was Artem Timchenko, Mitch Newhouse, Zach Dailey, and Jo Jo Tayse. Anthony Wise was runner up, Doug Mayes 3rd Place, Tanner lemon and David Bavery were 4th, Isaac Bast 7th, and Josh Arrendale finished in 8th place.
Special recognition goes out to Mitch Newhouse for defeating the nations top ranked wrestler and Pennsylvania’s defending State Champion.  Come out this Tuesday and see our Nationally ranked wrestling team take on Boardman and Austintown Fitch. The match will start at 5:30 in the main gym.
