Over 50 PHS Students Competing at State Tournament

This weekend, March 3-6, is a great opportunity for over 50 Perry students to exhibit the greatness of Perry throughout the state.  It’s a chance for them to leave their mark on history.  This weekend is State competition for Speech and Debate, Wrestling, Bowling and gymnastics. Representing Perry this weekend:

Spring College Fair

Kent State University at Stark will host the 2011 Stark County Spring College Fair from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 8 in the University Center, 6000 Frank Ave. NW. the event is free and open to the public. No reservations are required.

More than 50 colleges and universities will be represented. The fair is open to high school students interested in pre-college programs or attending a college after high school , as well as prospective non-traditional students looking for degree options and information. (more…)

Michael McBurney: February Repository Teen of the Month

Congratulations to Senior Michael McBurney who was selected by the Repository Teen Board as Teen of the Month for February.  Mike is an outstanding student, athlete, and an all-around personable young man.  The February Teens of the Month were highlighted in The Repository on February 27th.  The article can be read online and is linked here.

Matt Meeks: Coca Cola Scholars Program Finalist

Congratulations to Senior Matthew Meeks, a finalist in the Coca Cola Scholars Program.  Matt has been selected as one of the 250 scholars who will go on to compete for one of the 50 $5,000/year, four year renewable scholarships for post-secondary study (a total award of $20,000), or for  one of the 200 $2,500/year, four year renewable awards totaling $10,000. We wish Matt success as he competes in Scholars Weekend April 14-17, 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia.  Thank you Matt for making Perry High School shine through your efforts!

Speech & Debate Going to State, Nationals

Congratulations to the Perry Speech and Debate Team on their success at the Eastern Ohio NFL District Tournament at Stow-Munroe Falls High School on Saturday, February 19.  At this time, we are pleased to announce that four students will be representing Perry at the national tournament in Dallas, Texas in June.  The 2011 National Qualifiers are:  Tournament Champions Alli Francis and Justin Woody – Duo Interpretation, Matt Meeks – United States Extemp, and Tournament Champion Caleb Snyder – Humorous Interp. Also receiving final round recognition for placing in the top six in their events were:  Haley Smith, first alternate in Original Oratory and Molly Craig – Original; DJ Marlatt and Kanisha West – Drama; Travis Williams – Humor; Alex Gaff and Alaina Harless – Duo Interp, Karen Zimmer, Sara Gellenbeck, Corey Anderson and Shane Zabel – Policy Debate.   (more…)

Kyle Riordan Qualifies to State Swim Meet

Perry Swimming had a strong showing at the district meet at Cleveland State this past weekend.  Kyle Riordan advanced on to the state meet this weekend at C. T. Branin Natatorium in Canton by taking second in both the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. Personal best times were set by all swimmers including Alex Hamit and Emily Marino, a new school record was set for the boys 400 yard freestyle relay with Tyler Lunsford, Grant Gillilan, Matt Thiessen and Kyle Riordan with a time of 3:19.40.  Read more about Kyle in the Canton Repository here.
