Speech and Debate

For the third week in a row, the Perry Speech and Debate Team took first-place sweepstakes honors.  There were 35 schools in attendance at the Wooster Varsity Invitational on Saturday, January 22.  Receiving individual honors were:  Justin Woody and Alli Francis (Champions – Duo Interp), Kim Rose and Suzi Shapuite (3rd – Duo), Caleb Snyder (2nd – Humor), Travis Williams (6th – Humor), Mariah Glascock (4th – Oratorical), Austin Black (2nd – Prose/Poetry), Matt Meeks (3rd – USX), Charlie Jeffreys (5th – IX), Erin Moore (5th – Impromptu), Laura Markley (4th – Impromptu), and Nick Bentley (5th – Super Congress).
Finishing in the top six in Student Congress chambers were:  Ben McGavin, Calvin Curtin, Mike Audi, and Aaron Dauterman.  Semi-finalists included:  Meghan Vodopich, Seth Boda, and Brittni Walter.
Quarter-finalists in Policy Debate were Emily Mayfield and Anna Liebler, and Tod Mohney and Karen Zimmer.

Brain Game Show

Perry had their first opportunity to be on the Brain Game Show broadcast over the OHio News Network. Our taping was Saturday and the show will air March 24th.  Danielle Wagner, Avery Demchak, Allie Dolan and Austin Tyler, all members of the Perry Academic Challenge team dominated over Edison High School with a score of 285 -135.  All team members contributed at crucial times with Avery Demchak leading the scoring.

Gymnasts Tied for First Place

The flipping-fighting-panthers beat Cloverleaf and Timken last night at home.  This slides the Perry gymnastics team into a three-way tie for first place in the league with Wooster and Cloverleaf. Great job girls! The last regular meet of the season is next Wednesday, January 26th, at Souers against McKinley and Sandy Valley.

Speech and Debate Earn First Place

On Saturday, January 15, the Perry Speech and Debate Team earned first-place sweepstakes honors over the 40 schools in attendance at the Toledo Sylvania Varsity Invitational Tournament.  Congratulations to individual champions:  Caleb Snyder (Humorous Interp), Hannah York (Oratorical Interp), and Justin Woody and Alli Francis (Duo Interp).  Also placing in the top six in their individual events were:  Tiffany Powell, Matt Meeks, Austin Black, Jessica Berbari-McCallum, Garth Woodson, Calvin Curtin, Michael Audi, and Nick Bentley.
Semi-Finalists included:  Molly Craig, Haley Smith, D. J. Marlatt, Kim Rose, Suzi Shapuite, Charlie Jeffreys, Tod Mohney, Karen Zimmerman, Mike Meyer, and Ben McGavin.

At the Canton Central Catholic Varsity Tournament : First Place Champions:  Mariah Glascock, Caleb Snyder, Matt Meeks, Kim Rose, Suzi Shapuite, and Brittni Walter.  Also placing at the tournament were:  D. J. Marlatt, Sean Keane, Molly Craig, Avery Demchak, Austin Black, Mike McBurney, Charlie Jeffreys, Nicole Waers, Justin Woody, Alli Francis, and Garrett Graber.
