Girls Win District Championship, Boys Finish 5th

The boys and girls track teams competed at the district championships last week at Hoover high school. The girls team continued their winning ways by capturing the district championship by 24 points. This gives the girls the stark county championship, federal league championship and now a district title.

Bekah in the 400, Macee in the pole vault and the 4 by 400 relay team were all district champions. Also scoring for the girls were Bekah Brown and Josey Lacourt. Congratulations and good luck going into regionals.

The boys team closed out the district meet with a 5th place finish. Advancing to regionals were:

  • James Roth, district champion in the 400
  • Lucas Kelley in the pole vault
  • Keishaun Sims in the long jump

Also scoring were: Max Baker, Tevion Cleveland, Johnny Stevenson, Daniel Cronk, Jake Meeks, Jaret Martin, Cole Morris and Ben Kintz.

Both teams will travel to Austintown Fitch on Wednesday and Friday for regionals. Good luck and Go Perry!

Girls Win Federal League Meet, Boys Finish 6th

The boys and girls track teams traveled to Green High School on Friday to compete in the Federal League Championships.

The boys team finished 6th overall with a few noteworthy performances.  Lucas Kelley won the pole vault in grand fashion. He cleared a new record height of 16 feet 8 inches.  This mark is a new school record, county record, meet record and stadium record for the pole vault.  He now has the third highest mark ever in the history of the state.  Also winning a federal League Championship was Keishaun Sims in the long jump.  Keishaun’s jump of 21 feet 5 inches puts him in great contention for this week’s District Championship. Cole Morris finished 3rd in the 3200m Run to earn Honorable Mention League Honors. Also scoring for the boys were:  Evan Kimble, Tevion Cleveland, Nick Myers, Chris Fite, Frank Sciury, Matt Carrick, Ben Kintz, Max Baker, Daniel Cronk, Scott Essig, Jason Lacourt, Jake Meeks, Jaret Martin, Dillon Harper and Keith Storsin.

The girls team continued their winning way en route to a Federal League Championship on Friday. Earning first team honors for the girls were Bekah Carr in the 400 and 200, and Macee Erickson in the pole vault. Bekah was named Federal League Track Athlete of the year for her performances throughout the season and Macee set a new meet record in the pole vault.  The girls 4 by 400 relay team of Peyton Clarke, Leslie Bast, Taylor Anthony and Carr took home first team honors with their win.  Earning Second Team honors for the girls were Laila Strickland (100m and 200m Dash) and the 4 by 200 relay team of Carr, Peyton Clarke, Anthony and Strickland.  Earning Honorable Mention honors was Mackenzie Corrin in the discus.  Also scoring for the team was Andrea Hufstetler, Josey Lacourt, Laura Genetin, Lexi Echelberry, Kenzie Spehar, Analise Presutti, Maddy Bartolone, Emily Rodriguez, Morgan Fisher, Bekah Brown and Alexa Carpenter.

Both teams will compete at Districts on Wednesday and Friday of this week.  Congratulations on a great regular season!

Both Teams Beat Green

Congratulations to the boys and girls track teams on finishing up the duel meet season last night with wins over Green.

The boys were led by Lucas Kelley who set a new county, school and stadium record in the pole vault with a jump of 16 feet 5 inches.  Lucas was also a member of the winning 4 by 100 relay with Keishaun Sims, Tevion Cleveland and Max Baker.  Keishaun Sims won the long jump, high jump and 400m as well.  Tevion won the 110 and 300m hurdles.  The 4 by 800 team of Cole Morris, Daniel Cronk, Scott Essig and Jake Meeks won, and Meeks and Morris also won the 800 and 3200 respectively.  Ben Kintz won the shot put and Johnny Stevenson won the 1600m run.  The 4 by 200 team of Shavea Lightner, Justin Quinn, Chris Fite and Max Baker was also victorious.  Also scoring for the boys were Matt Carrick, Nick Myers, Keith Storsin and Jaret Martin.

The girls team finished off a perfect season in duel meets with the win.  The girls were led by Laila Strickland with wins in the 100 and 200m Dash.  She was also a part of the 4 by 100 relay with Macee Erickson, Taylor Anthony and Emily Rodriguez and the 4 by 200 relay with Bekah Carr, Peyton Clarke and Leslie Bast.  Bekah Carr also went on to win the 400 and was a member of the winning 4 by 400 relay team with Peyton Clarke, Taylor Anthony and Leslie Bast.  Macee Erickson won the pole vault, McKenzie Corrin won the shot put and Morgan Fisher won the long jump.  Madie Bartolone finished out the wins with a victory in the 3200 run.  Also scoring for the girls were Alexa Carpenter, Josey Lacourt, Bekah Brown, McKenzie Spehar, Lexi Echelberry, Elaine Bast, Leslie Bast, Annalise Presutti, Andrea Hufstetler, and Katie Williams.

Both teams will compete at the Jackson Twilight Invitational this Friday, then head to the Federal League Meet next Friday.

Boys and Girls Both Pick Up Wins Over Lake

Last night, the boys and girls track teams faced Lake in Federal League duel meet action. The girls won by a score of 100-37 while the boys were victorious by a 74- 63 margin. Lucas Kelley broke his own school record in the pole vault with a jump of 16 feet 1 inch. Great job by both teams on great team performances.

Girls Beat GlenOak 80-57, Boys Lose 42-95

The Boys and Girls track teams hosted a dual meet against GlenOak yesterday. The boys fell a little short of the victory in a hard-fought battle 42-95. Winning for the boys were:

Lucas Kelley – Pole Vault
Ben Kintz – Shot Put
Johnny Stevenson – 1600m Run
Cole Morris – 3200m Run
Chris Marx – Wheelchair 100, 400 and 800
Also scoring for the boys were:

Max Baker, Matt Carrick, Keishaun Sims, James Roth, Tevion Cleveland, Jaret Martin and Jason Lacourt.

The girls team defeated the Golden Eagles 80-57. It was a tremendous team effort in bringing home the victory. Winning events for the girls were:
