Apples for the Students Program Benefits Watson Elementary

For more than 20 years, Giant Eagle® has supported local schools through our Apples for the Students program. Through this partnership with our customers, Giant Eagle has donated over $25 million in educational equipment, including computers, software and playground equipment.

How the program works: 

Each time you shop at Giant Eagle using your Giant Eagle Advantage Card, you earn points for your school — points that the school redeems for great educational tools. The points are automatically credited to your school through the Giant Eagle Advantage Card.

Perry Township Celebration Dinner

There will be a brief presentation about our bicentennial, a buffet dinner, and dance to the music of the band, Timeless. Saturday, January 18, 2014, 6:00—8:30 pm, Exploration Gateway, 5712 12th Street NW, Canton, OH 44708.  Tickets are $25 per person and $50 per couple.  For your convenience, you may purchase tickets online at via PayPal. Accepted payment methods:VISA, Master Card, Discover or AmEx. If you prefer to pay via check or cash, please complete this form and return to Township Hall.

Watson’s December Student of the Month

student of the month copyCongratulations to Sophie Baker for being picked as Student of the Month for December! Sophie had her named pulled after earning numerous tickets for being Ready to Learn while at school. Sophie is currently a first grader in Mrs. Forchione’s  room. In addition to being Ready to Learn while at school, Sophie’s favorite subject at school is art and she enjoys collecting Lalaloopsy Dolls. Sophie likes sports; her favorite sport to play is basketball. When Sophie grows up she would like to be a chef.

Watson Bingo Night – January 24th

downloadWatson UNITE will be sponsoring a bingo night on Friday, January 24th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Doors will open at 5:30 PM. A $5 per family admission charge includes bingo cards for immediate family members and a snack. Additional cards can be purchased. Prizes  will be awarded for bingo winners. In addition to great prizes there will also be 50/50 tickets for sale. Raffle tickets can also be purchased for a Kalahari African Suite and an ipod touch.

If you are willing to donate prizes please send them with your student before January 24th. Please contact Liz Nyeste ( with any questions or concerns.

Lunch Menu Changes January 8th – 10th

Due to the closing of school the lunch menu for the remainder of the week has changed. Choices for lunch will be: Wednesday (1/8) – Romeos pizza, Thursday (1/9) – chicken fries, Friday (1/10) – chicken patty.

Grade 3 & 4 Holiday Program – December 17th

holidayconcertThird and fourth grade students will be performing this year’s holiday program at Watson. Two performances are scheduled for Tuesday, December 17th.  A show for  grandparents will take place at 1:30 pm in the afternoon with a family performance scheduled for 7:00 pm that evening.

Preschool Screening for Special Needs Children – January 8th

screeningA screening for preschool children ages 3-5 who have suspected delays is scheduled for Wednesday, January 8th at T. C. Knapp Elementary. If you have concerns that your preschool child may demonstrate significant delays in the areas of speech/language development, motor development, cognitive development, and/or social emotional/behavioral development, please contact Ashley Reinhart, by Monday, January 6th at 330-915-5307 to schedule a screening appointment. Preschool Still Enrolling Typical Peers for 2013-2014

preschool_blocks-300x214Interested in enrolling your child as a typical peer?  Spots are still available for the 2013-2014 school year.  Children must have turned 3 years old before August 1, 2013. Children must demonstrate age-appropriate speech/language skills, play skills, social skills, and behavior to be considered for enrollment. All typical peers must be reliably toilet-trained.
