Walsh University Honors Mrs. Ruef
Congratulations to Whipple Heights Elementary Intervention Specialist Kristy Ruef on being chosen by Walsh University in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week as their most inspiring teacher. Nominated by former student Jon Larkins, Mrs. Ruef was chosen from a group of nearly 30 finalists submitted from all over northeast Ohio for the honor. Mrs. Ruef was Jon’s 4th grade teacher. He is now a junior at Walsh University majoring in education.
“Mrs. Ruef pours her heart and soul into the lives of her students inside and outside of the classroom,” Larkins said. “She not only inspired me when I was a student, she inspired me to attend Walsh University to pursue an Early Childhood Intervention Specialist degree just like she did. I hope to be as much of a positive influence in the lives of my future students as Mrs. Ruef was for me.”
A 2001 graduate of Walsh University, Mrs. Ruef continues to stay connected to campus, returning to Walsh for the annual Professor for a Day event, where she shared her experience and offered guidance to current Walsh students pursuing a degree in education.
Mrs. Ruef learned that she was the winner through a surprise visit by former student Jon Larkins and the Walsh University mascot, Sir Walter the Cavalier. The May 7 celebration included a pizza party for Mrs. Ruef’s class and a special gift from the university.
Congratulations to Mrs. Ruef and thank you for all you do to support and inspire your students!
