Mrs. Baker’s students earned a game board party last Friday by using Smartypants words. Each week Mrs. Baker introduces 3-4 challenging vocabulary words such as ancestors, veterinarian, delectable, salivated, etc. Every time a student uses one of these words correctly, to show they know the meaning in his/her writing or a spoken sentence, they receive a magic word stone to put in the class jar. Once the jar reaches a certain point a mystery reward is opened. Not only do the students love this, but many of the parents are even trying to reinforce the use the words at home. So far this year the class has learned a total of 25 Smartypants words. CLICK HERE to view a slideshow!

During the first grading period, Mrs. Ousley’s 4th Grade students read Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. The students loved the story and had the opportunity to create book report projects relating to this fantastic novel. Each student was given a choice between completing one of 8 different projects. The project options included ones like creating a diorama of their favorite story chapter, writing a biography about the author and then writing the author a letter, creating a map of the town in which the story took place, creating a game about the story and SO much more!!!! The projects are simply amazing and are now on display in the school showcase! CLICK HERE to view a slideshow of some of the projects.
The 4th Graders in Whipple Heights Elementary Technology Class had a great time using our new technology to create Google Presentation Slideshows about Whipple Elementary School! The class took pictures inside and outside of the school with their Kodak digital cameras, and then downloaded the images into their Google accounts. The students then created a colorful slideshow tour of Whipple Elementary School using Google Presentation and their digital pictures. The classes had a fantastic time putting together their creations and are looking forward to future technology projects! CLICK HERE to view a slideshow!
To ensure the safety of our students and staff, Perry Local Schools will be implementing a new building visitor policy. Effective Monday, October 14th, visitors entering a Perry Local School building must submit a state/federal photo ID to the designated school building employee. Visitors must also sign in and out when entering and exiting a district building. The photo identification will be returned when the visitor signs out to exit the building. Thank you in advance for supporting this security change in order to better protect our students and staff.
Whipple Heights Elementary is gearing up for its 1st annual “Walk for Whipple.” On Friday October 4th, staff held an assembly for students to kick off the fundraising effort. Teachers sported their official walk-a-thon t-shirts (with some added touches) and modeled for students a mini walk-a-thon. They even showed students samples of the activity stations that they will experience at the actual event like hula hooping, jump rope, and pushups.
Fundraising for the walk-a-thon is in full swing with students trying to reach the top prize which is a limo ride to lunch (with the principal) at CiCi’s Pizza. The walk-a-thon is scheduled for Tuesday, October 29, 2013. CLICK HERE TO VIEW A SLIDESHOW FROM THE FUNDRAISER KICK-OFF ASSEMBLY!
Close to 200 of our Whipple families joined us for a voyage through the seven seas on Thursday night. Navigating around the school, families completed a twelve point scavenger hunt filled with challenging literacy and math activities. Earning a stamp in their passport at each stop, the families worked to find the pirates treasure (a gold chocolate coin and a NEW book for every child to take home and share together). Families also had their photos taken at our picture station and enjoyed refreshments provided by our PTO. It was a terrific adventure for all! CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE SLIDESHOW!
The true story of Johnny Appleseed was brought to life this week with a visit from Johnny himself. Johnny came into the Whipple Kindergarten classrooms in complete costume to tell the story of his family, travels, and experiences around Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana. Johnny shared an apple picture book, an old song from his heart, as well as a group photo, and advice for life. The Day was truly exciting as the students were able to share some of their own “apple knowledge” with Johnny after a week of apple discovery! CLICK HERE TO SEE THE SLIDESHOW!
